A Squier Affinity... the first steps of modding it.

This bass started out as a Squier Affinity P Bass that I bought for $99 at my local Music-go-round. Of course it needed a setup and a few tweaks but it was a good player. I decided to do a fret level so that I could get the action down very low.

I decided to rewind the pickups a lot hotter than original.

These are the original Affinity P Bass pickups with their small coil windings that measured a total of 5.6K ohm resistance.

Here are the Squier bobbins ready for some poly coated 43 gauge wire.

And these are the finished coils measuring 12.85K total resistance. I was initially concerned about the odd winding of the right coil but once I heard these pickups I realized my worries were for naught. This is one hot sounding set.

This the Affinity before I cut a new body.

Eventually I decided to cut a new body using red oak... I'm not much of a red bass kind of guy and the stock body would have been more time consuming to strip and refinish than making a new one.
